Congratulations, Newlyweds!

BIG UPDATE!

You are all so beautiful. As you go through these photographs looking for your own, I hope that you'll be warmed by the love and commitment shining on every face. I can't tell you how wonderful it's been to do this project, and I'd like to thank each and every one of you for giving me a perspective on same-sex marriages that I never would have had without this experience.

Many of the photographs have problems, sadly. Due to low lighting and my last-minute preparation on the first day, many of the pictures are poorly colour-balanced and some are out of focus. There's a lot of motion-blur. The second day is better, but you'll see an unfortunate light-leak in some of the pictures which my camera hasn't exhibeted before. I'm so frustrated that it had to appear when it did! It may have to do with the flash which is a new accessory for me (I usually shoot with natural/studio lighting.) For problem pictures that can be salvaged, I'll do everything I can to get a clean print to your doorstep (the photos with light-leaks will have to be done digitally, which is like fingernails on a blackboard to me!) The ones that can't be salvaged... well, if it's your picture, I will be more than happy to bring you and your new spouse to my studio and correct my mistake! I maintain a studio downtown (cattycorner from Powell's books) and it would only take half an hour.

I'm sure many of you are wondering why there were so many problems ("he looked so professional," some of you might be thinking.) Well, the fact is, I'm not a professional. I'm more of an aspiring artist, really, and this was my first two-day marathon portrait session! Also, my beloved baby, a Mamiya C220 (which is about as old as I am!) is very cantankerous and error prone. It wasn't well-suited to the hectic and hasty work we did those two days, but it was all I had to work with. I could have used my Nikon N50, I suppose, but then you wouldn't have the wonderful colour depth and sharpness that one gets from medium format. Some of the pictures from the second day, especially, are going to shine thanks to the larger format.

So here's what everyone's been waiting for...the pictures!

I was a little unprepared for the number of pictures I would be taking, so if there is anyone out there with experience printing type C color photographs, feel free to donate your time to help get these prints done as soon as possible.  If you're interested in volunteering, or you have any other questions or concerns, please contact me at tbrown@pobox.com.

Once again, congratulations, and I wish you all a long and happy marriage!
